About Sinteris

Since the 1970’s Sinteris has been making P/M (Powder Metal) parts for the North American appliance, manufacturing, and auto parts industries.  We are well-qualified by experience to meet your particular needs, and our plant offers capabilities that extend the applications for P/M technology.

Quality, well under control

P/M is basically a mass-production process, and sophisticated quality systems are needed to make sure that standards do not slip.  Sinteris proudly maintains a quality system that is registered to ISO/TS 16949.

Not just P/M, but complete, finished parts

Secondary operations are often necessary on a P/M part – drilling, threading, heat treatment, milling, plating.  Many P/M services stop short at this point.  Sinteris goes all the way.  A major part of our operation is devoted to machining, double disc grinding, lapping, honing, metallurgical processes, and sub-assembly.

Assembly and special operations

Sinteris has demonstrated the ability of producing assemblies combining P/M parts and non P/M parts, including tubing, stamping and machined parts.  Assembly techniques include mechanical fastening and brazing of P/M parts with non P/M parts.  Our philosophy is to provide customers with as complete a product as they require.  Processes which might have involved sub-contracting parts to several different shops are carried out under one roof, giving better control of quality costs and delivery times.  We also machine non P/M parts on a contract basis.

A special strength in green machining

While most P/M houses have eschewed more complex machining of P/M parts in the green (unsintered) state, Sinteris has embraced the technology and offers a variety of cost-effective turning, milling and drilling operations prior to sinter.  These processes were developed by Sinteris in conjunction with a major supplier and can be finished with conventional sintering or sinter-hardened.

Low volume no barrier

Among the presses at our plant – ranging from 8 ton mechanical presses to 750 ton hydraulic presses – are a number with quick change die holders.  We installed these presses because they dramatically cut the time, and therefore the cost, of setting up a production run.  This means that we are able to hold down the unit cost on low volume orders, bringing the advantages of P/M technology within the reach of users who might have thought of P/M as suitable only for high volume work.

Modeling and analysis

Sinteris employs modern technologies with full solid modeling capability and stress analysis methods such as FEA for existing and prospective customers as part of our ongoing effort to better support the needs and demands of our clients. Fatigue analysis, combined with early stage design consultation can cut valuable time to a demanding market.
