Case Studies

Ferrous and Non-Ferrous applications

A call was received from a major tier one buyer, located in Europe, asking if we had the capability of combining a ferrous magnetic powder with a ferrous non-magnetic powder in a single component application. We had similar experience with combining materials of varying carbon content, but never with magnetics. An engineer was quickly dispatched to test the potential that same day with promising results. After a continued eighteen month development period, we were able to achieve the ideal properties necessary to manufacture a high volume product now used in hybrid applications.

Success Under Pressure

A major producer of heavy equipment had a new concept seat adjuster for use in major earthmoving equipment that could revolutionize application in heavy duty seat design. Delays in concept development at a competitor P/M supplier resulted in the customer having contacted Sinteris. A combination of five components was required. Applying our extensive design experience and many years of pioneering development and application of green state machining, we were able to assist in the development of these components. The most serious challenge was actually a five week development window for all components. Careful management of tool making resources resulted in all five components meeting the demanding schedule. These parts are now in production, as well as an older design mating part that was re-sourced to Sinteris, due to manufacturing and supply difficulties.

Green State Innovations

Sinteris pioneered green state production turning of automotive chain sprockets for a major remanufacturer. Machining product in the green state has been proven to reduce consumable cost significantly with no impact on finished product or design. Papers have been presented at major conferences detailing these innovations that are applied where possible to offer the best price and technology combinations available.
